The classic novel of the Second World War that relates in devastating detail the 24-hour story of an allied bombing raid.
Bomber is a novel of war. There are no victors, no vanquished. There are simply those who remain alive, and those who die.
Bomber follows the progress of an Allied air raid through a period of twenty-four hours in the summer of 1943. It portrays all the participants in a terrifying drama, both in the air and on the ground, in Britain and in Germany.
In its documentary style, it is unique. In its emotional power it is overwhelming.
Len Deighton has been equally acclaimed as a novelist and as an historian. In Bomber he has combined both talents to produce a masterpiece.

Is it worth finishing?
By GB
It's hard to say too much about a book that sends you to sleep every night. It's supposed to be a thrilling classic WW2 story. Nothing happens for the first 60% of the book - a runway long enough for a Lancaster bomber to take off on. We get the boring and tedious biographies and physiology of almost all the inhabitants of England and Germany spouting cheesy dialogue, plus a lot of technical information like a service manual of different aircraft. It all seems like so much contrived padding to make a novel-sized book instead of a short story, and the result so far is stupefying. I haven't got to the remaining 40% yet where there is supposed to be a bit of mayhem to liven things up, but maybe I'll give it away before then. Dated, slow and boring.

Historical Fact by my favorite author, A Day from English and German side without bias
By B. Speer
All this author's non-fiction books on WWII are unbiased from all Countries involved. Details second to none. My whole perspective of WWII history has changed in terms of what went on at highest levels of government good and bad without bias. Personally my favorite author on this subject. Sorry I have now read all of them. Heroes will get knocked down a couple rungs and villains will be given credit for talent and mistakes. Highly recommended. Happy Trails
