A strong woman during wartime

In Germany, Louise, Queen of Prussia is still remembered as a heroine of the Napoleonic Wars. Louise was born in 1776 and had an idyllic childhood until war intervened. She was forced to evacuate her home in Darmstadt when the French invaded in 1792. This was the first of many evacuations & forced traveling which took place throughout her life after she married Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia. As the French invaded Prussia and then annexed parts of it, it fell to Queen Louise to try to save her country. It was felt that she would have more success using her womanly charms while treating with Alexander I of Russia and with Napoleon. In addition to learning about a very determined woman, I also learnt more about some of the major battles fought during the Napoleonic Wars; before, they were just names on signs in Paris (Avenue d'Iena, Gare d'Austerlitz, etc.).
